About Us > St. Vincent De Paul

Patron: The school is named after St. Vincent De Paul, a visionary of the 17th century who transformed society by selfless dedication and devotion to the cause of the downtrodden and the less privileged. St. Vincent De Paul was born at Pouy, in France, in the year 1581. He had four brothers and two sisters, Vincent De Paul studied humanities in Dax, France with the Cordeliers and he was graduated in theology at Toulouse. In 1625, Vincent De Paul founded the Congregation of the Mission, a society of priests commonly known as the Vincentians. In 1633, with the assistance of Louise de Marillac, he founded the Daughters of Charity. Vincent De paul was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity. He was singularly faithful to the duties of his state, careful to obey the suggestions of faith and piety, devoted to prayer, meditation, and all the religious and ascetic exercises. Of practical and prudent mind, he left nothing to chance. He died at Paris, on 27 September, 1660. When he died the poor of Paris lost their best friend. Drawing inspiration from the life and work of St. Vincent De Paul, the Vincentian Congregation was founded in 1904 at Thottakom, Kerala by Very. Rev. Fr. Varkey Kattarath. Now the Congregation has three Provinces; Mary Matha Province, St.Joseph Province and St. Thomas Province extending their services throughout India and also in Italy, Germany, Kenya, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand, Uganda, the U.S.A. and Canada. The Management is providing excellent education through its schools and colleges in different parts of the country apart from running a large number of social service centres. The internationally famous Divine Retreat Centre at Potta and Muringoor, Kerala has been the initiative of the Vincentian Congregation. St Vincent De Paul Our Patron -7
